Gear Optimizer

Find the best gear for one general, or optimize several generals by priority without reusing limited gear.

What is Evony War Room Gear Optimizer?

Civilization gear

My Inventory

Gear Optimizer assumes owned gear is available unless you mark it Equipped. An Equipped Civilization piece is currently equipped on a general and unavailable to future Gear Optimizer searches. If you rely on Civilization gear on your Defense General, such as Koryo gear, or on Subordinate City Mayors for debuffs, mark those pieces Equipped. Equipped gear remains recorded as owned but will not be used in recommended loadouts.

About Gear Optimizer
What should I actually put on my general?

Once you have a large collection of Civilization gear, deciding which six pieces belong together can get complicated.

The piece with the highest attack buff is not always part of the strongest loadout. Another piece may add an important debuff, improve HP or defense, or complete a set bonus that makes the entire combination stronger.

Gear Optimizer does the comparison for you.

Choose your troop class, how the general will be used, and the troop class you expect to fight. Gear Optimizer compares the available combinations and shows you the loadouts that perform best for that matchup.

Gear Optimizer is currently in limited beta while we test it with a small group of Evony War Room users.

My Inventory or Best-in-Game
My Inventory

Use My Inventory when you want to know what you can build with the Civilization gear you actually own.

Add your owned Civilization pieces at their current star levels.

If there is gear you own but are not willing to move, mark it Equipped. Equipped gear remains part of your inventory, but Gear Optimizer will not use it in a recommended loadout or treat it as an unowned piece that can be crafted again.

This is useful for gear you need to keep on your Defense General, Subordinate City Mayors, or other important generals.

Add the Civilization gear you own. Mark anything you are not willing to move as Equipped.

My Inventory can also consider new Civilization gear. You choose the maximum number of new Conquest and Supreme pieces you are willing to craft.

Newly crafted Civilization pieces are calculated at 5★.

Best-in-Game

Use Best-in-Game when you want to see the strongest possible loadout without limiting the search to your own inventory.

Best-in-Game searches the full available gear pool, with Civilization gear calculated at 10★.

This can also help show which pieces may be worth working toward.

Crafted gear is already included

You do not need to enter regular crafted gear into My Inventory.

Gear Optimizer automatically includes eligible gear from these sets:

  • Dragon
  • Ares
  • Achaemenidae
  • Imperial
  • Parthian
  • Apollo
  • Asura

This gear is treated as unlimited because multiple copies of the same piece can be crafted.

Civilization gear is different. Civilization pieces are tracked individually because Gear Optimizer needs to know which pieces you own, their star levels, which ones are Equipped, and how many new pieces you are willing to craft.

More than just buff numbers

Gear Optimizer compares the complete six-piece loadout, not just the largest individual buff numbers.

The calculations include gear buffs, relevant debuffs, gear set bonuses, and maximum percentage refines.

This is important because gear normally thought of as “debuff gear” can sometimes make a much stronger offensive march.

If you are willing to move a debuff piece from a Subordinate City Mayor, leave it available in My Inventory and let Gear Optimizer compare it. If you need it to stay where it is, mark it Equipped.

The piece that looks strongest by itself is not always part of the strongest complete loadout.

Refines

You do not need to enter the refines currently on your gear.

Gear Optimizer compares each piece as if it were fully percentage-refined for the troop class being searched:

  • Weapon and Ring: ATK
  • Helmet and Legs: HP
  • Armor and Boots: DEF

Four maximum percentage refine lines are used on each piece based on the refine limit for that type of gear.

Flat refines are not included.

This lets Gear Optimizer compare the potential of the gear itself rather than favoring a piece simply because it happens to have better refines today.

How Gear Optimizer searches so many combinations

Gear Optimizer is not a brute-force calculator.

Some searches can involve an enormous number of possible gear combinations. Simply calculating every possible combination one by one could take many hours.

Instead, Gear Optimizer uses a purpose-built exact optimization algorithm based on mathematical techniques such as branch-and-bound, exact pruning, and forward feasibility checking.

In simple terms, Gear Optimizer can recognize when a large group of gear combinations either cannot produce a legal loadout or cannot beat the best results already found. Those combinations can be safely eliminated without calculating each one individually.

This allows Gear Optimizer to work through very large search spaces much more efficiently.

Most importantly, this is not an approximation. Gear Optimizer does not simply test a sample of promising combinations and choose the best one it happens to find. Combinations are eliminated only when the exact-search rules show that they cannot change the final result.

That is how Gear Optimizer can search very large numbers of possible combinations while still producing an exact, certified result.

One General and Multiple Generals

A One General search answers one question at a time and can return up to five of the highest-ranked loadouts.

For example:

What are my best Mounted Attack loadouts against Ground?

Multiple Generals is designed for players who need to equip several generals from the same Civilization gear inventory.

Put your searches in order of importance. Priority #1 gets first choice of your available Civilization gear. Priority #2 is then optimized using what remains, followed by Priority #3 and the rest of your priorities.

You can search up to six priorities.

Put your most important march first, then let Gear Optimizer find the best use for what remains.

Equipped Civilization gear is unavailable to every priority. Regular crafted gear remains available because multiple copies can be made.

Choose what “best” means

Gear Optimizer offers two optimization goals.

⚔️ Highest Damage

Highest Damage ranks loadouts by damage dealt.

As a general rule, Highest Damage may be the better choice for players who usually battle opponents with weaker buffs. When you expect to win the exchange comfortably, dealing the greatest amount of damage may be what matters most.

⚖️ Efficiency

Efficiency ranks kills divided by losses. Higher efficiency means a better PvP point exchange.

As a general rule, Efficiency may be more useful when fighting players with buffs equal to or stronger than your own. In those fights, the loadout that deals the most total damage is not always the loadout that gives you the best exchange.

In simple terms:

Highest Damage: How much damage can I deal?

Efficiency: How well can I trade my losses for enemy losses?

Understanding the results

Each recommended loadout includes modeled battle results to help you compare your options.

Potential Kills estimates enemy troop losses.

Estimated Losses estimates your own troop losses.

Efficiency Ratio is Potential Kills divided by Estimated Losses. A higher ratio represents a better modeled PvP point exchange.

These values are designed to compare loadouts under the same conditions.

They are modeled estimates, not a promise of exactly what will happen in a real Evony battle.

What does Certified mean?

When a completed search shows Certified, Gear Optimizer has completed the exact search and verified the result before showing it to you.

The optimizer may safely eliminate combinations that cannot affect the answer, but it does not sacrifice exactness by simply sampling the search space.

Certified means the search was completed using the full exact-search rules and the result was verified.

Gear Optimizer FAQ

What gear should I put in My Inventory?

Add the Civilization gear you actually own and enter its current star level.

You do not need to enter Dragon, Ares, Achaemenidae, Imperial, Parthian, Apollo, or Asura gear. Eligible regular crafted gear is automatically included.

What does Equipped mean?

Equipped means: I own this piece, but Gear Optimizer may not use it.

The piece remains recorded as owned but is excluded from My Inventory searches.

Use Equipped for gear you need to keep on your Defense General, Subordinate City Mayors, or another important general.

Can Gear Optimizer recommend crafting an Equipped piece?

No.

Equipped gear is still recognized as owned. Gear Optimizer will not use the Equipped copy and will not treat it as an unowned piece that can simply be crafted again.

What happens if I leave a Civilization piece I own out of My Inventory?

Gear Optimizer may believe you do not own it.

If the piece is eligible and your Conquest or Supreme crafting limit allows it, the optimizer may recommend it as a new 5★ craft.

For that reason, it is better to enter the Civilization gear you own and use Equipped for anything you are not willing to move.

Does Gear Optimizer include debuffs and set bonuses?

Yes.

Relevant gear debuffs and gear set bonuses are included when complete loadouts are compared.

That is one reason the strongest combination may not be obvious just by comparing the positive buffs on individual pieces.

How does Gear Optimizer handle refines?

You do not need to enter your current refines.

Gear Optimizer assumes four maximum percentage refine lines for each piece:

  • Weapon and Ring use ATK.
  • Helmet and Legs use HP.
  • Armor and Boots use DEF.

Flat refines are not included.

What is the difference between My Inventory and Best-in-Game?

My Inventory asks: What is the best loadout I can make from the Civilization gear I own and the amount of new Civilization gear I am willing to craft?

Owned pieces use their actual star levels. New craftable Civilization pieces are calculated at 5★.

Best-in-Game asks: What is the strongest possible loadout using the full available gear pool?

Best-in-Game evaluates Civilization gear at 10★.

Can the same gear be used for more than one Multiple Generals priority?

It depends on the type of gear.

An individual Civilization piece can only be assigned once. If Priority #1 uses it, that piece is unavailable to the priorities below it.

Regular crafted gear such as Achaemenidae, Imperial, Apollo, or Asura is treated as unlimited because additional copies can be crafted.

Should I choose Highest Damage or Efficiency?

Highest Damage may be the better choice when you usually battle players with weaker buffs and want to maximize damage.

Efficiency may be more useful when fighting players with buffs equal to or stronger than your own and getting a better PvP point exchange becomes more important.

These are general guidelines rather than rules for every battle.

Are Potential Kills and Estimated Losses predictions of an actual battle?

No.

They are modeled estimates designed to help compare one gear combination with another under the same conditions.

Actual battles can include variables outside the Gear Optimizer search.

What does Certified mean?

Certified means Gear Optimizer completed the exact search and verified the result before presenting it.

The optimizer may eliminate combinations that exact-search rules prove cannot affect the answer. It does not simply sample a small group of combinations and call the best one Certified.

How do I get access?

Gear Optimizer is currently in limited beta.

Beta access is being opened gradually while we test real player inventories, search performance, and the overall user experience.

More Evony War Room users will receive access as beta testing progresses.
